Towering buildings, oil on paper 50x65cm
Plein air painting, cityscape from a courtyard in Amsterdam. I stood very close to the wall, looking up while painting. This makes the building almost lean over. Interesting perspective I thought.

Vondelpark

moleskine sketchbook A5 Philine van der Vegte
The academy year has started again, we went out for some sketching in the Vondelpark. After filling 2 sketchbooks during the summer holidays, I had to push myself a bit to start yet another drawing. However, this one turned out nicely I think.

I painted this on the waterside of one of the many canals in the Dutch countryside. After painting, I scratched some contour lines with the back of my brush to accentuate the movement of the water and the reeds.

Dinner time

Dinner time, oil on canvas 60x80cm, painting of a Stabyhoun eating from a bowl by Philine van der Vegte
"Dinner time" This is a painting of our black and white Stabyhoun eating from her stainless steel bowl on the floor. Oil on canvas 60x80 cm, available on Etsy.
Wikipedia: The Stabyhoun or Stabij is one of the top five rarest dog breeds in the world. It is from Friesland and in particular from the Frisian forest area, a region in the southeast and east of Friesland. The breed has been mentioned in Dutch literature going back to the early 1800s, but has only extended its range from the 1960s outside of Friesland and not until the 2000s did the range officially extended beyond the Netherlands. The name Stabij translates roughly as "stand by me" with the last part simply Frisian, meaning dog, which is pronounced "hoon". The dog is considered a Dutch national treasure. There are only a few thousand Stabyhouns in existence today worldwide.
